Change Capital Partners acquired a controlling stake in Republic
in 2005 in partnership with Republic’s co-founders,
Tim Whitworth and Carl Brewins.
Since its acquisition, Republic’s turnover has doubled
(from £100m to £200m) and EBITDA has trebled.
Key operational improvements focused around increasing the science around
new store openings, including launching a new “mega-store” concept,
increasing the penetration of key house-brands like Miso, Crafted and
Soul Cal and launching the highly successful website
www.republic.co.uk which now represents nearly 10% of sales.
In total, 27 new stores were opened, including flagship stores in
London, Birmingham and Belfast, with a further 10 stores
and 500 new jobs planned for 2010. |
| Exit |
In June 2010, Change Capital Partners sold its stake to the global buy-out group, TPG.
The Republic management team will continue to run the business and
will remain significant shareholders in the new company.
